I'm Still Working This One Out.
Steve and I, we've had conversations about how we should start packing.
We nod our heads and agree with each other. Yep, it's a good idea to start packing.
Our move is only a little over two weeks away, and with both of us working full-time, that means there are not many packing hours between now and then.
I even went so far as to look into ordering some moving boxes last night. I visualized myself putting items in the boxes, taping them shut, labeling them neatly--and that's where I was stumped. What would I do with the boxes after that? Put them in big piles somewhere, sure. But where? Not the living room, we wouldn't be able to get around them to the bathroom and the front door. Not the bedrooms, it would block our paths to the beds and the dressers. Suddenly the horrors of our initial move into this space washed over me...clamoring over box obstacle courses to find a place to lie down for the night...the movers saying to Steve, "I really don't think we can fit another box in your apartment. They're stacked 5 feet high everywhere,"...telling the kids to play up in the loft and to not come down for at least an hour, maybe then there would be somewhere for them to sit... It wasn't pretty.
How do we do that in reverse--and still manage to live here for another couple of weeks?

Oh, Dana, the horrors of moving...I don't look forward to it either. I went pillaging through my new neighbors' trash this morning for boxes. Emmeline was calling out her observations regarding their trash. "They ordered Pizza for dinner last night! There are wine bottles in this bag!" What will they think of us? Anyway, the boxes will likely sit in the garage for a while. I can't get myself to pack yet.
Sounds like your only hope is to use this time to jettison anything you don't need (I know...you already did that moving the first time and in such a small place you don't have room for extras. I guess I'm thinking McDonald's toys) and "staging" stuff. 'Cause it sounds like you're going to be throwing stuff into boxes as the movers haul it out! Good luck!
Is there a way to suspend boxes from the ceiling? Ha ha!
my sweet friend, you just do.
you have me come over and get the kids in the early evening whilst you pack. you go to grocery stores and get boxes in the am. you put up a note in the building to get Fresh Direct boxes dropped off at your door. you move the tv a bit and start stacking right there. and if you see empty boxes in the street-you drag um home.
I got an idea (of course) you box all the stuff up you don't need right now and UPS them to me, I will sort through them for interesting items and when you need them I will UPS them back to your new address. Brilliant!
Thank you, all, for your support, commiserations, and suggestions. I'm taking them all into account...
Fig, that is indeed brilliant in a fig sort of way. I would make sure to pack many "interesting" things for you and would expect many additional interesting things to be included upon return.
